Scattered throughout Cornwall, standing sentinel over precipitous cliffs and rugged moorland, ageing stone structures defy the ravages of time. These buildings once contained giant steam engines that heralded an era when Cornwall led the world in mining technology and produced over half the world’s tin. They stand today, a Cornish icon, above the old tunnels, shafts and workings – abandoned, water-filled, dark and silent – the real monument to the Cornish miner.
